Implementation Engineer

Purpose of the role:

Pico is currently seeking Design and Implementation engineering candidates to deliver best in class low latency connectivity solutions for Pico’s clients and internal infrastructure projects in line with Pico’s standards and strategic :framework. Playing a key role in working with other teams within the business, the role holder will be a proactive, solutions oriented Engineer with highly developed organization and attention to detail skills. The role holder will also be responsible for working with our Service Operations (NOC) Team to ensure that all escalations are dealt with in a timely and effective manner, transferring knowledge and building skills among Service Operations Team.

Responsibilities and duties (include but not limited to)

  • Design, deployment, and escalated problem resolution, for a large service provider network infrastructure
  • Perform daily checkouts of the environment and following any changes
  • Construct valid configurations for implementation based upon design and/or technical concepts
  • Support deployment and maintenance of network switches, routers, firewalls, and other network appliances
  • Application of configuration changes via our change control systems and processes
  • Perform peer review of configurations scheduled for deployment
  • Perform network infrastructure changes in a diligent and professional manner
  • Participate an on-call rotation for support escalations

  • 5 years+ experience working on financial networks. Ideally including exchange market data connectivity.
  • Experience with Juniper, Arista, Fortinet and/or Cisco hardware and software
  • CCNP/JNCIP – CCIE certified or equivalent level of knowledge
  • Highly proficient in routing protocols: OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, ISIS, MPLS
  • Advanced understanding of Multicast Routing (IGMP, PIM, MSDP)
  • Expert level knowledge of TCP, UDP and upper layer protocols

Manager of Platform Engineering

Pico is seeking a Manager of Platform Engineering with heavy focus in Linux and experience with virtualization. The candidate will have a thorough understanding of operating systems, server hardware, monitoring, supporting a live trading environment, scripting, automation, maintenance, and risk management. The candidate will integrate with our expert level engineering staff that will perform day-to-day support but will be primarily responsible for architecture, design, and guidance on future deployments. Responsibilities and duties (include but not limited to)

  • Supervision of the Platforms Engineering Team including book of work, roadmap, budgets, and coordination between various departments

  • Continuous Improvement via performance analysis and optimization, capacity management, Problem Management, & Defect Management
  • Manage a book of work, prioritizing projects and tasks in alignment with team and firm priorities
  • Assist in R&D of new Pico products, hardware, technologies, and techniques
  • Support the business in new initiatives & stay abreast of current trends in trading and analysis platforms
  • Grow Pico’s reputation and revenue base through professional conduct and above-expectations delivery

 Education, Skills and background (incl. Education and Experience Requirements)

  • 3+ years direct management of a team of technical resources
  • ITIL certification or equivalent experience
  • At least 5 years of direct experience with Linux in a trading, financial services, or similar environment
  • At least 5 years of experience with Linux running on physical server hardware in a production environment
  • At least 3 years of experience with Linux running on virtual server hardware in a production environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a technical focus or equivalent experience
  • Experience with some or all of the Pico’s toolchain: Elastic Stack, Ansible, BitBucket, AppFormix, Nagios, RunDeck, NetBrain, Corvil, MapR (Hadoop), Artifactory, JIRA, Device 42
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring & event correlation platforms (Nagios, Orion, Sensu, Riemann, etc.)\
  • Experience working with AWS S3, Glacier, EC2, Direct Connect, or equivalents from Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, or RackSpace
  • In depth knowledge of AD, LDAP, sudo, auditd, selinux and other authentication and security controls
  • Working knowledge of Linux/Unix command line
  • Experience with a broad array of Unix/Linux distributions
  • General understanding of IP Multicast, Routing and the TCP/IP stack
  • Understanding of advanced time concepts (GPS, PTP and NTP)

Working Arrangements

This is primarily an office-based position.  Though travel may be required from time to time, it is not expected to be regular or frequent. The role holder will be expected to work whatever hours are necessary for the performance of this role (recognizing that it involves multiple jurisdictions / geographies including but not limited to EMEA, USA and APAC), remote access will be provided to ensure proper global execution of the job function.
